End of the road

4G0A9014.JPGThe farthest you can get from Vilnius and still be on Lithuanian soil is Palanga, a wonderful little seaside resort town at the far north-west corner of Lithuania’s strip of the Baltic coast. In the summer, it heaves with sun-worshipping visitors, but on a sunny ascension weekend, it is just as charming, only less crowded, making a perfect getaway for the Vilnius crowd. The water is still below 10°c, so there are only a few brave souls that dare brave the waves this time of year, but with the mercury topping more than 20°c on land, and away from the wind, summer had most definitely arrived on the Lithuanian seaside.

*Admittedly, this is about as off-piste this blog can get from its mission of providing a years’ worth of snapshots of Vilnius, but it would be a shame not to highlight some of the other sights of this country, which are all within a daytrip’s reach from the capital.
